Lately there too much brouhahas about Syaikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab in the local media. The path taken by the syaikh had been debated long time ago by the ulama. There are of course those who follow him to the letter and others who were against his teachings.
To say that the term Wahhabiyyah didn’t occur during the syaikh’s era as a certain ex-mufti of a northern state said is not entirely true since his own brother Syaikh Sulaiman wrote a book against his brother’s teaching and it was titled “Al Sawa’iq al Muhriqqah fi Madhhab al Wahhabiyyah.’ It was also known as Fasl al-Khitab min Kitab Allah wa-Hadith al-Rasul (salla Allahu `alayhi wa-Sallam) wa-Kalam Uli al-Albab fi Madhhab Ibn `Abd al-Wahhab.”
The problem arises IMHO is due to the unwillingness amongst us to accept difference of opinion. Difference of opinion exist since the era of the Sahabah r.d.a.
During the era of the Followers ( Al Tabi’in ) emerge schools of thought especially in Jurisprudence ( Al Fiqh ) whereby the Four Schools of Fiqh came about. There were other madhhabs as well such as madhhab of Imam Dawud al Zahiri, madhhab of Imam Sufyan Al Thawri, madhhab of Imam Al Auza’i, madhhab of Imam Laith to name a few which didn’t withstand the passing of time and were soon forgotten.
The existence of different schools of fiqh then was not a problem. Imam Al Shafi’i studied under Imam Muhammad Al Syaibani, Imam Hanafi’s main student. When he prayed the Subuh prayers, Imam Al Shafi’i who was asked to lead the salat didn’t read the Qunut prayer. When he was asked why he didn’t recite it, he answered I didn’t recite it due to the fact that Imam Hanafi ( who’s tomb was inside the masjid ) said it was not sunat.
Imam Ibnu Taimiyyah when he was in Egypt didn’t hesitate to perform the salat behind Imam Ibnu ‘Ataillah al Sakandari, a well known Sufi and author of the famous book ‘Al Hikam.”
Imam Hasan Al Banna advised certain parties in Egypt during his time who were arguing about the rakaah of Tarawih. He told them that Salat Tarawih is sunat whereas keeping the spirit of ukhwah is wajib!
So IMHO, if each group have dalils according to the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ( phub) then each should act according to what each have learned!
What’s the use of finger pointing in this matter?

Eidul Adha or more popularly known as Hari Raya Haji here in Malaysia will be celebrated on the 27hb of this month.
In Islam, Eidul Adha is the greater celebration or Eid al-Kubra whereas Eidul Fitri is the smaller celebration, since Eidul Adha is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, according to the 2nd ayat of Surah Al-Kautsar “So pray unto thy Lord, and sacrifice.”
For those of us who are not fortunately enough to perform hajj, we are encouraged to observe fast on the 9th of Zulhijjah ( Day of Arafah ).
As reported by Abu Hafsah r.d.a, he reported that the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah absolves the sins for two years: the previous year and the coming year, and fasting on ‘ashûra, (the tenth day of Muharram) atones for the sins of previous years.” Reported by all except al-Bukhari and Tirmidhi ridwanallahu alaihim ajmain.
I remember celebrating Eidul Adha will joy during my childhood since the celebration in the east coast seems to be more joyous…endless invites to kenduri and such.
Amidst all the joyous celebration, what is of the utmost importance is remembrance of the sacrifices done by the holy family of Sayyidina Ibrahim a.s. and to follow in their footsteps. Even though told by his beloved father that Allah had commanded that he be sacrificed, Sayyidina Ismail was not hesitant at all to give up his life.
Sayyidina Ismail a.s told his beloved father…
Sacrificing our time, wealth and so forth in the way of Allah.
Salam Eidul Adha, maaf zahir batin.
To those of you who are driving home…please be careful.

“Perjalanan jauh tak terasa, kerna hatiku melonjak sama, ingin berjumpa sanak saudara, yang selalu bermain di mata….“
How true what the late Sudirman had said in his song about going home during Eidul Fitri. I didn’t have a chance to visit my relatives especially my aunt in Pulau Kundor and my mom in Panji, last Eid due to the fact that my mom was coming over to KL that year to send off my brother who got a job in Saudi Arabia.
This year I had the good fortune of being able to travel home on the 2nd day of Eid. The journey was smooth even though not few cars and vehicles as I would have expected, were traveling my way too on that day!
Except for the delay during the stretch between Kg. Pek and Pulai Chondong, which took over an hour, the journey home took the expected time to arrive.
On the way back to KL on the 6th day of Syawwal, there were traffic jams entering Machang and Kuala Krai and also upon entering Raub and Bentong.

Nik Tamar's childrens and grandchildrens ( well almost all of them.....)
As usual during the Raya visits, one would normally expect trips to Pasir Mas, either by using the Sultan Yahya Petra bridge or the new highway leading to Pasir Mas bridge to be packed with cars and mpvs! So was the scenario during this Raya as well!
All I can say is that the traffic jams in KL shifted home during this festive season….

Chatting with Zamarin, Prof Ismail Salleh's younger brother, at his house in KB
Eventhough I have to admit that it was hectic and rather tiresome, but it was well worth it…..ask anyone who brave the traffic jams and what nots to travel home for Eidul Fitri and I’m sure they would gladly repeat it next year.

At my cousin's house in Kg Gua, Salor
Eid Mubarak everyone…..

The holy month of Ramadan is just around the corner. For those of us who perform 20 rakaats of Solat Tarawih, I bring forth the evidence given by ulama’ of the four school of jurisprudence as a guide.
